1.01 - Pilot, Part 1

Jack: Excuse me? Did you ever use a needle?
Kate: What?
Jack: Did you ever patch a pair of jeans?
Kate: I...I made the drapes in my apartment.
Jack: That's fantastic. Listen, do you have a second? I could use a little help here.
Kate: Help with what?
Jack: With this. Look, I'd do it myself. I'm a doctor, but I just can't reach it.
Kate: You want me to sew that up?
Jack: It's just like the drapes.
Kate: No, with the drapes, I used a sewing machine.
Jack: No, you can do this. I'm telling you! If you wouldn't mind.
Kate: Of course I will.
Jack: Thank you.

Kate: I might throw up on you.
Jack: You're doing fine.
Kate: You don't seem afraid at all. I don't understand that.
Jack: Well...fear's sort of an odd thing. When I was in residency my first solo procedure was a spinal surgery on a sixteen-year-old kid. A girl. And at the end after thirteen hours I was closing her up and I..I accidentally ripped her dural sac . Shredded the base of the spine where all her nerves come together. Membrane as thin as tissue. So it ripped open. Nerves just spilled out of her like angel hair pasta, spinal fluid flowing out of her and I...the terror was just so crazy. So real. And I knew I had to deal with it. So I just made a choice. I'd let the fear in, let it take over, let it do its thing. But only for five seconds. That's all I was gonna give it. So I started to count. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. And it was gone. I went back to work, sewed her up, and she was fine.
Kate: If that'd been me, I would have run for the door.
Jack: No, I don't think that's true. You're not running now.

Jack: I don't know your name.
Kate: I'm Kate.
Jack: Jack.

1.02 - Pilot, Part 2

Kate: I'm going on a hike.
Jack: Sorry?
Kate: Sayid fixed the transceiver, but we can't use it. Not from here.
Jack: Kate, wait a minute!
Kate: You're the one who said that we need to send out a signal.
Jack: Look, you saw what that thing did to the pilot.
Kate: Yeah, I did. What makes you think we're any safer here than we are in the jungle?
Jack: Wait for me. I don't know how long...
Kate: Sayid said the battery won't last.
Jack: All right. If you see or hear anything. Anything...run!

1.03 - Tabula Rasa

Kate: I wanna tell you what I did. Why he was after me.
Jack: I don't wanna know.
It doesn't matter, Kate. Who we were, what we did before this...before the crash. It doesn't really... Three days ago, we all died. We should all be able to start over.
Kate: Okay.
Jack: Okay.

1.04 - Walkabout

Jack: Tell me something. How come every time there's a hike into the heart of darkness, you sign up? You know what's in there.
Kate: Actually, I don't. And neither do you.
Jack: What's your feel on our new friend?
Kate: Seems to know what he's doing.
Jack: Call me paranoid. But anyone who packs a suitcase full of knives...
Kate: If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're worried about me, Jack.
Jack: If I didn't know any better, I'd say you have a problem staying in one place for very long, Kate.

1.05 - White Rabbit

Kate: Hey.
Jack: So what'd they say?
Kate: Jack, maybe you should...
Jack: Who was she?
Kate: Her name was Joanna. She wasn't supposed to be on the plane. She was scuba diving off the barrier reef and got an ear infection, so the doctor grounded her for two days. She bumped her flight. That's how she ended up with us.
Jack: She was just swimming this morning. Got caught in a riptide. We've been here six days, and I never talked to her. I never said a word to her.
Kate: Jack, don't.
Jack: There are forty-seven of us, and I never said a single word to her.
Kate: You tried.
Jack: No, I didn't.  I thought maybe I could...I thought I could bring him back and still have the time. I was there...in the water...I didn't try.  I decided not to go after her.
Kate: Jack? Jack. Are you okay?
Jack: Did you see that?
Kate: What?
Jack: Standing there in the water, there was a man. You didn't see that?
Kate: Jack, when was the last time you slept?
Jack: I need to put this with the rest of the gear.

Kate: So, where were you today, Jack?
Jack: I just had to take care of a few things.
Kate: That's all I'm gonna get, huh?
Jack: My father died...in Sydney.
Kate: I'm sorry.
Jack: Yeah. I'm sorry, too.

1.06 - House Of The Rising Sun

Kate: Are you checking me out?
Jack: What?
Kate: There's no harm in it, I was just...
Jack: Trust me, if I was checking you out, you'd know it.

Jack: Hey. It's almost time to go.
Kate: I don't want to be Eve.
Jack: No one's asking you too.
Kate: I just can't. Dig in.
Jack: Why not? Someone else can stay here. Keep a look out, wait for rescue. Why does it have to be you?
Kate: That's not it.
Jack: Then what is it? Kate, how did you get to be this way? Just what is it that you did?
Kate: You had your chance to know.
Jack: If you need me, you know where to find me.

1.07 - The Moth

Kate: So you’re not staying?
Jack: Call me a broken record, but the caves are natural shelter and a hell of a lot safer than living here on the beach.
Kate: You’re mad at me.
Jack: No, Kate, I’m...I just don’t understand why you won’t come with me. Us. Maybe a mile up there, if that.
Kate: We crashed eight days ago. I’m not setting up house here.
Jack: I want off this island too, but we both know that’s not going to happen any time soon.
Kate: Sayid has a plan.
Jack: Yeah, to find the source of the distress call, I know.
Kate: That signal is coming from somewhere on the island. If we can find it...
Jack: That signal has been running on a loop for sixteen years, Kate. And the woman that left it, she wasn’t rescued. What makes you think it’s gonna be any different for us?
Kate: I believe it.
Jack: I wish I shared your faith.

Kate: Made you something.
Jack: Ah, my very first sling.
Kate: How's that?
Jack: Good. Thank you.
Kate: So these are the safe caves you've been going on about?
Jack: This was a fluke. Michael checked out the integrity of the rest of the caves. Gave them an okay. So you're headed back to the beach, huh?
Kate: Sayid should be back there by now and if his plan worked then...
Jack: We're one step closer to getting off this island. Thanks for the sling, Kate.
Kate: You're welcome.

1.09 - Solitary

Kate: This thing have a ladies team?
Jack: Hey.
Kate: I almost didn't recognize you. You're smiling.
Jack: Have to watch that.
Kate: So how'd you come up with this?
Jack: Wasn't me. It's all Hurley. I've been going crazy trying to make everyone feel safe. I haven't been sleeping because I want everyone to feel safe. He builds a golf course and everyone feels safe.

1.10 - Raised By Another

Jack: Well, this is a first. You, standing still, middle of the day, doing nothing. Amazing.
Kate: I'm doing something.
Jack: Yeah? What's that?
Kate: I'm sinking.

1.11 - All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues

Kate: What's going on?
Jack: I didn't believe her. Claire. I gave her a sedative.
Kate: Jack, you can't...
Jack: She told me someone was after her, that she was being attacked and I...she just seemed so out of it. I thought that her pregnancy was amping up her stress and...I didn't believe her.

Jack: So where did you pick up the tracking skills, Kate? Was that before or after you were on the run?
Kate: I'm trying to help, Jack.
Jack: You know what might help? A little honesty. Just give me something real. Anything.
Kate: My dad was in the army. Ranger battalion. We were stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington State. We'd go hiking together. One day we spent eight hours tracking deer. Being in the woods, it was like his religion. That was real. Anything you want to share, Jack?

1.12 - Whatever The Case May Be

Kate: We got a problem.
Jack: We have a problem or...you have a problem?
Kate: Jack, you're the only one who knows about me. Before I left for Sydney, the Marshal who was escorting me, he had this silver case. The Airline wouldn't let him bring him the case on the plane. It was hard enough trying to convince them to let him wear a gun on his ankle. But the case...they made him check it.
Jack: What was in the case?
Kate: Some traveling money. Some of his personal stuff. And four 9 millimeters with a few boxes of ammo.
Jack: Guns.
Kate: Guns.
Jack: So, where is the case now?
Kate: Sawyer has it.
Jack: Uh-huh.
Kate: He hasn't been able to open it, but...
Jack:  Lucky for us.
Kate:  He will. Sooner or later.
Jack: So, what do you need me to do?
Kate: I know where the key is. He...the Marshal...kept it in his wallet, in his back pocket.
Jack: I buried him, Kate.
Kate: I know. Where?
Jack: So what else is in the case?
Kate: What?
Jack: What else is in the case, Kate?
Kate: Nothing.
Jack: That's the truth?
Kate: Just the guns.
Jack: If you want my help, we're gonna open the case together.
Kate: Okay.
Jack: Okay.

Kate: Jack?
Jack: We're gonna do this together.
Kate: Why?
Jack: Because that's what I said we'd do.

1.13 - Hearts & Minds

Kate: I can see you there, you know.
Jack: I wasn't hiding. Just didn't want to disrupt you from doing...whatever it is you're doing.
Kate: It's not like it's a secret.
Jack: Hard to tell with you sometimes. Oh. Gross little grayish-yellow things.
Kate: Passion fruit seeds.
Jack: What are they for?
Kate: I'll show it. If you wanna see.
Jack: Yeah.

Jack: Put out your hand. You'll like it, I swear.
Kate: Gross little grayish-yellow thingies?
Jack: Oh, no, no, no. These are slimy little bluish-black things.
Kate: Guava seeds!
Jack: What's a garden without guava?
